"Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does." - Nelson Mandela
By its very nature, sport is about participation, inclusion and unity. It stands for human values such as respect for the opponent, acceptance of biding rules, teamwork and fairness. Sport has long been recognised around the world as a cost effective tool in the field of global development and peace promotion. When used correctly, sport can be an efficient, safe and powerful mobilising tool, creating a forum to reach and educate youth everywhere.
Included in the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officially adopted in September 2015, is the recognition that sport is "an important enabler of sustainable development" contributing to the "realization of development and peace" and the "empowerment of women and young people, individuals and communities, as well as to health, education and social inclusion objectives." At Cruyff Institute Sweden, we are committing to promote sport as a valuable tool in achieving sustainable development in Sweden and internationally.
